Members of the general public and private researchers are welcome to visit the libraries with a One Day Pass on the basis of research purposes only. For this reason they will be asked to provide more detail about their research, resources they intend to use etc.
There is no need to apply in advance to obtain a One Day Pass. Just turn up at the Library Welcome Desk with a valid form of official ID and a student/staff/SCONUL ID. You will be asked to fill a form and, if you satisfy the criteria above, you will be given a One Day Pass.
One Day Passes are valid until the closing time of the Library and can be obtained only once per academic year. Temporary membership can be granted for research purposes only. For more information please visit our Other visitors webpage or select your category from the list at Access and membership.
24/7 access restrictions
Due to increased demand for study spaces and resources by our staff and students, access to the Mile End Library will be restricted during the examination period between Monday 17 April to Friday 26 May inclusive. Please note that access at our Whitechapel and West Smithfield libraries remain unaffected.
No One Day Passes will be issued to UG, PGT and private researchers during this time. The restriction doesn't apply to PGR students and Academic Staff from institutions part of the SCONUL scheme (a valid Student/Staff ID will be required).
