Publisher Open Access Agreements

Queen Mary University of London has a number of deals and agreements with publishers to help reduce costs and streamline the processing of open access publishing. Access to some of these publisher agreements are dependent on your research funder, others may be available to all Queen Mary authors. Details below provide more information for those looking to submit articles to these publishers. 

If the publisher you are interested in is not listed or you would like to recommend a publisher membership, please contact the Repository and Research Information Team.

Not all publisher policies will be in line with your research funder's policy on open access, please see our information on Open Access and your funder.


The ACS offers discounts to offset against future open access charges each time you publish with them. 

ACS Author Rewards 

For each ACS article you have published, you should receive two $750 voucher codes sent by the society.

You can then redeem the vouchers via RightsLink.

The Library has a Pre-Payment account with BioMed Central (includes Chemistry Central). To access the account your research must have been funded by one of the following:

The Library is part of a subscription agreement with Bioscientifica that entitles articles submitted by all Queen Mary correspondence authors, irrespective of funding, to be published at 50% discount in any hybrid journal to which the Library has a subscription. Currently these are: Journal of Endocrinology, Journal of Molecular Endocrinology, Endocrine-Related Cancer, European Journal of Endocrinology, Reproduction.

The School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science has purchased a number of credits to cover publications fees for authors within the school for papers published by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

The Library is part of a subscription agreement with Microbiology Society that entitles all Queen Mary authors, irrespective of funding, to a discount of up to 15% off OpenMicrobiology fees. Additionally, for JMM Case Reports, corresponding authors within an institution with an active subscription to Journal of Medical Microbiology receive a 50% discount to the OpenMicrobiology fee.

The Library has an account with PeerJ to pay for author memberships of the scheme. When submitting a paper if you use your university email address and list Queen Mary University of London as your affiliated institution. The Royal Society of Chemistry provides a 15% discount on all open access fees for Queen Mary authors irrespective of research funding body. When submitting papers to the RSC please ensure you use your university email address and list Queen Mary University of London as your affiliated institution, so that the RSC can apply the membership discount.


Membership to the Royal Society provides a 25% discount on all open access fees for Queen Mary authors irrespective of research funding body. When submitting papers to the Royal Society please ensure you use your university email address and list Queen Mary University of London as your affiliated institution, so that the Royal Society can apply the membership discount.

Sage Discount Agreement

The Library is part of a subscription agreement with Sage Publishing that entitles all Queen Mary authors irrespective of funding to a discount of up to 80% off open access fees. A code for this scheme must be entered before the paper is published and cannot be applied retrospectively once the charges have been raised.

The Library is part of the Springer Compact agreement for open access publishing. The agreement covers original papers, review papers, brief communications and continuing education irrespective of research funding.

Payment of the open access fees is linked to the correspondence author's affiliation. Please use your university email address and list Queen Mary University of London as your affiliated institution.

Springer will contact the Repository and Research Information Team for confirmation.

The agreement does not cover SpringerOpen journals or BioMed Central journals, along with any Open Choice journals that do not offer CC BY licensing. See the list of eligible journals here.
