Access and Membership
Once you are fully enrolled and receive your student card, your library account will be operational. Your student card also functions as your library card.
Queen Mary has three libraries. The Mile End library is a large multi-disciplinary library. The Whitechapel library holds Medical and Dental material and the West Smithfield library holds Medical material. Queen Mary students have access rights at all libraries.
You can borrow books at the self service kiosk at Mile End and Whitechapel libraries. You will need your student card and PIN. If you do not know your PIN, you can find it here. For full details on borrowing, renewing and paying fines see here.
You can browse our print and on-line collections via the library catalogue.
The library subscribes to over 16,000 online journals and 142 databases. These resources can be accessed via Discovery. When on campus you will have direct access to the majority of these resources. When off campus, it is necessary to authenticate using your Queen Mary username and password. This can be done using the red banner which displays at the top of the Library Discovery page when off-campus or when prompted as you click through to an item.
A few items may still require you to re-enter your Queen Mary username and password, you will be prompted to do this. For others you may need to register or find the login on the platform page.
A small number of resources require a publisher supplied username and password. Check the password list [PDF 200KB] for details.
See here for full details on e-resources.
PCs, Printing & Photocopying
PCs & Wifi
Student PCs are located in all the libraries. You can login to the PCs and Wifi using your student services account assigned to you at registration. See here for current PC availability in locations across the university.
Printing & Photocopying
Printing & photocopying credit can be added to your student/library card, online via your QM ipay account, or at one of the QM ipay kiosks located at Mile End and Whitechapel libraries.
Print jobs sent from Student Service PC’s or from laptop devices can be released at any printer within Student Service labs and the Libraries. The Library Multi-function Devices (MFD’s) can be used to photocopy and scan as well as print. Swipe your college ID card at the card reader attached to each device to collect and pay for your prints and photocopies.
The photocopy machines also function as scanners. There is no charge to scan but you will need at least 4p on your QM ipay account for your card to register on the photocopier. The option to scan is located at the top of the display screen.
See here for full details on all these services.
Undergraduate or Masters students at Mile End should contact the Team Leader responsible for Inter-Library Loans, or see our advice about using other libraries, if they require material that cannot be found in the library.
