CURIOSITIES IN THE ARCHIVES

In this exhibition we highlight some of the most curious artefacts and documents in the Archives. The exhibition explores the unusual and unexplained in the institutional records, the Print Collection, and collections of private papers. The artefacts featured date from the Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian periods.

The exhibition includes some artefacts with unknown provenance, including a pocket watch, and a note book of clippings documenting a trip to Egypt and the Holy Land in 1846. Without any information on the original author or owner of the items, it is impossible to fully understand the history or value of these items.

Thankfully these examples are rare exceptions, and Archives Team actively preserves, arranges and catalogues the collections in a way that will ensure their integrity as evidence and primary sources.
